Privacy Policy
Mom's Mental Load ("the app", "we", "us") is published by Enslins Paarl Inc, South Africa. This policy explains what the app handles, why, and what you can do about it. We handle personal information in line with South Africa's Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA), and we apply the same standards to everyone who uses the app, wherever they live, including under the EU and UK General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) where it applies to you. For the purposes of those laws, Enslins Paarl Inc is the responsible party ("controller") of the personal information described below.
What we collect
Your account. Your name or nickname, your email address and your password. Your password is handled by Firebase Authentication. We cannot read it.
Household information you choose to enter.
- Children's names, birth dates, schools, allergies, comfort items, clothing and shoe sizes, and notes.
- Medication logs: what was given, when, and by whom.
- Lists, routines, schedules and tasks, and who each one is assigned to.
- Emergency contact numbers you add.
- Names, roles, phone numbers and email addresses of the caregivers and co-parent you add.
- Addresses you choose to add, for example in a nanny handover note.
- Household invite codes. There are two kinds: a Parent code and a Caregiver code.
- Household expenses you choose to track in the parents-only Finances section: the expense name, the amount in the currency you choose, the due date, which parent is responsible, notes, and whether it has been paid. This is a tracking tool only. The app does not move money or connect to any bank.
Your subscription. Whether you have a paid plan and which one. Payments are handled by your device's app store. We never see your card details.
Technical information. Basic details such as device type, app version and error reports, used to keep the app working.
Health information. Allergies and medication logs are health information about children. Entering them is optional, you decide what to record, and only your household can see it.
How we use it
- To run the app and keep a household's information in sync across everyone's devices.
- To show reminders and notices inside the app.
- To confirm which subscription plan is active.
- To answer support requests and fix problems.
We do not sell your information, show advertising, or use your information to profile you.
Who can see it
Only the people in your household, and only people the household invites using an invite code. Parents have full access. Caregivers can see the household information they need to do their role. The Finances section and the Parent invite code can be seen by parents only. A person joining a household is given the role that goes with the invite code they use (the Parent code for a second parent, the Caregiver code for everyone else) and cannot choose a different role. We do not share household information with other users.
When information leaves the app
If you export a list to PDF, share it to WhatsApp, send an invite by email, or export a calendar file, the content you choose is handed to the app you pick. What that app does with it is covered by its own privacy policy. We do not see it.
Service providers
- Google Firebase (Authentication and Cloud Firestore) stores account and household data.
- Your device's app store processes purchases.
- RevenueCat processes purchase receipts so the app knows which plan is active.
They process information to provide their service to us, and their own privacy policies apply to that processing. Some of them store data on servers outside South Africa.
Where your information is stored, and international transfers
Account and household information is stored with Google Firebase (Cloud Firestore) in a data centre in Frankfurt, Germany. Our service providers (Google, RevenueCat and your device's app store) may also process limited information in other countries, including the United States. Where the law requires it, we rely on safeguards such as the providers' Standard Contractual Clauses to protect information that leaves your country or the European Economic Area.
Our legal basis for using your information (EEA and UK)
- To provide the app to you (performance of our agreement with you): your account, your household's lists, routines, tasks and invitations, and your subscription status.
- Your consent: for health-related information such as allergies and medication logs, which you choose to enter. You can withdraw your consent at any time by deleting that information in the app or by deleting your account.
- Our legitimate interests: keeping the app secure, preventing misuse, fixing errors and answering support requests.
- Legal obligations: where we must keep or share information by law.
Information about children is entered by the adults who look after them. By entering a child's information you confirm that you are the child's parent, guardian or caregiver and are entitled to enter it.
Security
Information is encrypted in transit, and access to a household's data is limited to signed-in members of that household. No system is perfectly secure, so please use a strong password and keep your device locked.
Children
The app is for parents and caregivers aged 18 and over. It is not for children to use, and we do not knowingly collect information directly from children. Information about children is entered by the adults who look after them. If you believe a child has created an account, please contact us and we will delete it.
Your rights and deleting your account
You can see and correct your information inside the app at any time. You can also ask us to delete it, or object to how it is used.
Depending on where you live, you may also have the right to: ask for a copy of your information and to receive it in a portable format; ask us to restrict how we use it; object to certain uses; and withdraw consent you have given. Write to us using the contact details below and we will respond within the time the law allows (normally within one month).
California and other US states. We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioural advertising. You can ask us to access, correct or delete your information using the contact details below, and we will not treat you differently for doing so.
To delete your account, use Delete My Account in the app's menu, or follow the steps on our account deletion page.
If you are not happy with how we handle your information, you can contact us first. You also have the right to complain to the Information Regulator (South Africa), or to the data protection authority in the country where you live. In the European Economic Area and the UK this is your national data protection authority.
How long we keep information
We keep information while your account is active. When you delete your account, we delete your account and the household information tied to it within 30 days. Purchase records held by your app store and RevenueCat follow their own retention rules.
Changes to this policy
If we make a material change, we will tell you in the app. The date at the top shows when this policy was last updated.
